Wash & Soak
Rinse Pearl Millet thoroughly 2–3 times in clean water to remove dust and impurities. Soak the grains in enough water for 6–8 hours or overnight. Soaking softens the grains, improves digestibility, reduces cooking time, and helps retain nutrients. For quicker preparation, you can soak in warm water for 2–3 hours, but overnight soaking is ideal for best results.
Step 2
Cook & Serve
Drain the soaked Pearl Millet and transfer it to a cooking pot. Add 2½ cups of water for every 1 cup of millet. You can either pressure cook for 3–4 whistles or cook in an open pot over medium heat for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Once cooked, allow it to rest for a few minutes, then fluff gently with a fork. The cooked millet can be served as a wholesome rice alternative, used in khichdi, porridge, or incorporated into roti, bhakri, dosa, or upma for a nutritious and hearty meal.
